Notes for ALBERT KNUDSON:
Albert was the first of twelve children born to Ole and Julia Knudson.
Albert was born August 21, 1878 in Kasson, MN. When he was a young man,
he worked out as a hired man. Albert and his brothers cleared the timber
from the 40 acre farm north-east of the Village of Claremont, MN. When
the family moved to the farm, very little of the acreage was tillable
because of the many oak trees.
Albert and Richard Burk went to Bowman, ND and took up a homestead. Albert
had 160 acres. In 1909 after proving up his claim he rturned to Dodge
County, MN and rented the home place when his parents moved to Dodge Center,
MN. His sister Mary kept house for him part of the time. Harold Naylor
stayed with him the rest of the winter.
In January of 1908, Albert met Emma Rose Trapp. Emma was working as a
hired girl for Lena Barwald at the time. Emma was born April 3, 1886 in
Maribel, WI. Emma was a first cousin of Herman Barwald. The Trapp and
Barwald familes were neighbors in Wisconsin before the Barwald's came
to Minnesota.
Albert and Emma were married June 22, 1910 in Menominee, Michigan. They
had to walk two miles to the ministers house to get married. Emma's wedding
dress was white with a full length veil. She carried a bouquet of roses.
Albert and Emma lived on the edge of Claremont for two years after moving
rom the home place. they then bought a farm between West Concord and Dodge
Center, MN. They lived there until they passed.
Albert and Emma's only child Olive Alberta was born August 18, 1029 at
the farm.
Albert and Emma celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary on June 22,
1960 at their farm.
Albert passed March 9, 1964 at the age of 85 and Emma passed December
12, 1974 at the age of 88. They were buried at Riverside Cemetery in Dodge
Center, MN.
